When I talk to moms about netbooks they question why they would need one when they already have a laptop. I try to explain that netbooks are small and light enough to keep in their purse all day. I already started my review for the HP Mini 1000 Vivienne Tam Edition, but the next step was to see what would happen if I truly kept it in my purse – where would I end up using it? Did I need to have mobile computing beyond my smartphone or could I just wait until I got home?
Then.. While the kids were at school and I was meeting a friend for coffee, I used my HP Mini Vivienne Tam Edition to catch up on email after getting to the cafe early..
I had to show off the HP Mini to the salespeople at the store next door to the cafe – which was having a big sale.
I took it out while I was waiting for my twins basketball game to start. I snuck in some online social networking before the game started – and then I cheered my boys on!. No – this is not the equivalent of a dad reading the newspaper while the game was going on. I shutdown before the game started (but I did not need to watch the practice..)
My friend bought her 2 year old to the game, who had red pattern leather shoes that matched my HP Mini quite nicely. Her 2 year old was getting bored and I offered to have her play on PBSKids.org because I also happened to have my Sprint USB Broadband card with me.
One of the moms at the game was admiring the HP Mini and tested it out by seeing if it fit into her bag. It did. I admired back her grey patent leather bag.
Brought my HP Mini to a school PTA meeting to take notes and slip in a few important business emails to keep my workday in line while at the meeting. Someone at the meeting was nice enough to bring muffins.
The HP Mini came skiing with me, which allowed me to catch up on blogging, email and social networking at night after the kids went to sleep.
The kids at the cabin wanted to take a quick look at the HP Mini Vivienne Tam Edition. The consensus was that while they like having their desktop or laptops at home, they would find it useful to have a netbook. Some of the reasons they mentioned was that it would nicely into their backpacks and they could carry it around while at school or traveling. They tested it out by playing some games and watching some videos. They easily used the touchpad to play online games but we promptly shut if off afterwards because there were ski slopes awaiting.
So far the HP Mini is coming in very handy, I use my downtime more efficiently during the day to keep up to date on email , social networking and web browse if needed when I am away from home . I can take notes at meetings and email everyone before the meeting is over. I never felt comfortable typing more then a few sentences on my smartphone, but with the HP Mini's 92% keyboard, it is comfortable to type. But I did find it important to bring my USB Broadband card along so that I could have internet access whether there was a Wi-Fi in range or not. I also used the built-in Wi-Fi when available.
Whats next? I am taking my HP Mini 1000 Vivienne Tam edition to NYC.. Let's see what new adventures will happen along the way.
Disclosure: I was given a Vivienne Tam HP Netbook for a review program.
